Masefield 2019 Golf Day
posted on 10 August 2019
On Monday 5th August the usual suspects of Masons, Golfers, Friends and Family turned out for a glorious day of sunshine and fun. The golf day has traditionally been held on a Tuesday but this year we had to change to the Monday which, as luck would have it, proved very fortunate with the warm summer sun.
After assembling at Kings Norton Golf Club, we were encouraged to have breakfast consisting of bacon baps, tea or coffee. This alone was worth the visit. Suitably fed and watered, the rules and regulations were delivered by W.Bro. Mike Bunn, who also informed the eager golfers that a change had been made and that, in lieu of the usual Texas scramble, the morning challenge would be contested over the par 3 nine-hole course, with just two clubs plus a putter. This proved surprisingly tricky, and was an ideal warm-up for the main 18-hole Stableford event following on from our lunch of sandwiches and chips, and there was no risk of keeling over from lack of nourishment on the beautiful Golf Course.
So the afternoon’s play began, and the teams set out to enjoy the fabulous surroundings of one of the top golf clubs in the West Midlands. A mixed report from the teams: some had done better than expected, while others seemed relieved to arrive back to the bar.
At this point, several non-golfers and partners arrived to join in the fun, bringing our numbers to around 50. Drinks and much lively conversation in the bar, then into the dining room which offered three courses and wine at the table. But there was more to come! It was time for the results. W.Bro. Mike Bunn took to the stage to explain the scores and to hand over awards to the successful golfers, concluding with the Worshipful Master W.Bro. David Morcom presenting the main silverware, the Masefield Golf Cup, which for the second year in a row was won by W.Bro. Joe Tambe.
So here’s to next year! Good luck to all and well done Masefield.
